With all the hype surrounding the recent Detroit-based auto show, the 2012 Tokyo Auto Salon commenced with comparatively little chatter. For Honda however, the tuner-centric show provided an intriguing look at the automaker's wilder side.
First up, Honda introduced a flashier cousin of its already-eccentric Honda N BOX. Aptly named the Honda FLASH BOX, the concept model is decked out in white and purple LED lights throughout the interior and exterior, a matte black paint job and purple accents. On the inside, drivers and passengers ride in Prince-inspired-style with black vinyl seats and reflective panels.
Those who've been with Honda for the long haul might remember the Honda Beat which ran through production from 1991 to 1996. For Tokyo 2012, our favorite automaker revived the roadster and adorned it with special Honda accessories. In addition to Beat and Flash Box, Honda also spit out a Honda FreeD Wa concept, based on the Freed Hybrid compact minivan, as well as the FreeD Spike Transporter. While the FreeD Wa caters to the family and pays homage to Japanese culture, the FreeD Spike Transporter wears a Honda Racing exterior and is perfect for hauling a different kind of cargo: motorcycles.
